Motheroak permaculture coop
RR2 Newport, Nova Scotia,
Canada
We are a permaculture teaching centre/ organic market garden farm. The objective is a community with 4-8 people--and that remains flexible. The vision is to live lightly on the earth, with compassion for oneself and others, and to cultivate a sense of sanity and humor.
By sanity we mean basic common sense without ego as reference point, understanding how things/ the world works, and always seeking a deep understanding of people and things.
We are located in rural Nova Scotia, on a beautiful hilltop that has been lately transformed by permaculture design. Our 25 acres is contiguous with another 80 that surrounds us on three sides, and is closely connected through family. Our market garden is about 2-3 acres, and we sell direct at a farmers market. We keep livestock: milk goats, poultry, a workhorse, and sometimes beef animals.
We are spiritual though not religious, as is commonly said these days. Though a buddhist myself, i would say that "integral life practice" more essentially describes what we aspire to. Mindfulness in daily living, a sense of compassion and joy, and not taking oneself(or others) too seriously.
We are definitely keen on peak oil, climate change, and economic meltdown. Our permaculture design has more a less put us on the "lifeboat" option of responses, though we by no means are isolationist.
We are inviting a few good people to join us. Integrity, humor, openness, common sense, a few skills, gentleness, and a willingness to try something different. I suppose our commitment to permaculture ethics makes us radical; so that too.
And a willingness to contribute to the work of living on a farm, whether you farm or not--which is optional.
The cost of joining is relatively low--way under 50k. What's really important is shared values, a willingness to cooperate and contribute, honesty and openness, and a flexible, somewhat lighthearted attitude--not so attached to outcomes to the point of distraction.
Some spanish and italian spoken here too.
Please contact us if you are interested, and we can begin a correspondence. Thanks & cheerio.
