Alysion Acres
Alysion Acres
Alysion Acres is an embryonic intentional community, or cooperative living arrangement, designed to accommodate 8 to 15 active, creative, secular-minded mature adults who enjoy both solitary and group activities. Our goal is to provide an enriching environment where personal needs can be economically met, freeing individuals to pursue their creative interests or otherwise "follow their bliss." We are currently in the development/remodel phase thus pioneer-types interested in planning, designing, and construction are encouraged to apply.
Alysion Acres encompasses 18 acres in temperate SE Arizona. At 3700' elevation it is an oasis in the desert with an artesian well and small ponds. It adjoins the 57,000 acre San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area for birding, hiking, and horseback riding. Four acres have been developed for human use/domestic animals, and in respect for the environment and native species, the remaining 14 acres has been set aside for preservation and enhancement as a wildlife refuge.
Each furnished room will offer a private entrance, bathroom, and kitchenette, with three of the five bedrooms being suitable for double occupancy if applicable. Common areas include a full kitchen, laundry area, stocked library with wi-fi, dining/meeting room, garden, and recreational areas. Residents are welcome to bring their own horse or lease one of our gentle steeds.
This is a community, not a commune. Private ownership of necessities is the rule, but members can live more simply and economize by sharing the extras/luxuries. Everyone doesn't need to own 57 gadgets that are seldom used. We offer the use of our personal library, tools, equipment, and toys. Sharing is an option, however, not a requirement. Nothing is compulsory; members can always opt out of community life as desired, but otherwise it's there to enjoy.
In addition to conventional housing, we have an interest in designing and constructing small, off-the-grid, alternative/experimental dwellings such as a Mogollon-style pit-house, an underground “Hobbit” hole, a Thoreau cabin, POD micro-houses (small, mobile, self-contained, minimum foot-print dwellings), and more. Alysion Acres also has two developed RV sites with full hook-ups and two private residential mobile homes.
