Ginger Ridge Farms
Mt. View, Hawaii,
United States
Welcome to what was the largest organic banana and ginger farm in the USA, we are now growing a broad variety of vegetables and bananas. We are also transforming into a show place of landscaped gardens, fountains and South East Asian and Hawaiian arts.
The intention now is to build a healthy and challenging environment for creative living , working and teaching. I need a core group that would be the foundation of all that we do. Much of the infrastructure is already in place. I want to serve the community through providing fresh organic produce, classes and workshops in farming, food preparation, marketing, Tai Chi Chuan, Muaythai, Chi Kung, Shiatsu and building dwellings from what grows on the land. With the support and co operation of the core group i want to develop the farm to be a place that people from the local community as well as the world community can come to live and learn. The core group must first become proficient in all the farm practices as well as basic Tai chi, We can then offer daily and monthly workshops and classes.
Howard James is an international organic farm consultant with experience both in temperate and tropical climates having done work for US gov. in The Philippines and in Thailand.
The format as it stands now is 25 acres that have been farmed organically for the past 20 years with the potential to acquire 25 more acres. A 4,000-square-foot warehouse with three-phase electricity, plumbing, phone, solar hot water, washer & dryer, slow internet. Farm equipment, tractors, mechanic shop. Deep soil, 2,000-foot elevation--can be cool and rainy. We are presently producing kale, beans, corn, carrots, beets, broccoli, herbs & salad mix.
We are looking for people who are already with practices (tai chi, yoga, etc.) and healthy diets in place who understand how to work with others and can contribute strength and clarity to building a bubble--a small part of this universe where the choice of "yes, I can" comes very easily. We need people who enjoy working hard on the land, growing food, fixing machinery, building, marketing, preparing great food, exercising, meditating, massaging. A little, but not too much processing, of the emotional psycho babble. Can you clearly tell someone what to do if you're running a project? Can you follow directions simply and easily? Do you have any expertise? Do you have any money? This is real life, you want it to be special. Make it special. Except what's expectable. Do what's doable!
Howard James, owner of Ginger Ridge Farms is a premier Tai Chi Chuan instructor and personal trainer with over 35 years teaching experience. Tai Chi promotes one's mental tranquility, improves physical fitness, increases blood circulation to its full capacity and provides the tissues of the various organs with the maximum amount of oxygen. It also prevents and or cures disease. Tai Chi deals with the human body under the action of given forces and is based on practical physics such as body leverage and the hydraulic pressures which exist in our body. The principles of body mechanics which are found in Tai Chi are universal to all human beings. These principles promote good health and animate one's daily activities. Tai Chi has been a Chinese martial art as well as a means of achieving physical fitness for centuries. Tai Chi is the most priceless treasure from China.
"Aloha Malama 'Aina” simply means to love, respect, care for and nurture the land, make it ours and claim stewardship of it so it can give back all that we need to sustain life for ourselves and our children for future generations. Our island, our earth, or our mother it’s the same thing. They need our love and respect.
