We are a core group of 9 people forming a sustainable residential community and farm in Wayanad, Kerala.
We have principal property of about 12 acres.
The project has commenced.
We have constructed a road and are building several cottages. We have built and open well and a bore well. We have planted many trees and have completed stopped the use of chemicals on the property that was formerly a an estate growing rubber, coffee, areca, etc. We are now giving the land time to recover to a more natural state.
We have started the basics to enable water harvesting and this will continue through this year. We intend to use some alternative energy generation through solar power.
We have bought considerable employment to the local community through the consruction phase. This will develop and continue as we identify suitable projects that engage the local population.
We hope to educate and help the community develop new ideas in sustainable living.
For the members this is a retirement project but one that keeps us engaged and active. We do not need to act commercially - at least that is not a primary objective but we hope to develop some commercial activity to cover basic costs.
Finally, we hope to establish an example of community living that is probably unique in Wayanad, Kerala. Perhaps one days others will emulate this and are certainly keen to help them in this.
We believe that this is a viable retirement solution that offers an alternative lifestyle to those who wish to pursue it.
