| I wish to form or join rural eco/survival community in Saskatchewan. Possibly elsewhere, but this area is my current focus. Main goal is to prepare for collapses and crises and a Great Depression. Basically, create a quiet, natural, peaceful, safe place of sustainable, self-reliant practices. Ideally, the land has woods and cleared areas for gardening, animals, etc. Near water would be nice, too.
Prefer off-grid power (or the ability to switch to this, when necessary) & mostly separate dwellings, with emphasis on alternative construction, organics, etc. In addition to living more greenly, I think hard times are coming, as Earth rebels and heals itself, economies flounder, etc. The world will twist and turn, in my opinion, so we should increase self-sufficiency and prepare for difficult years ahead.
Community named after Thoreau's book "Walden", due to themes of 1) Retreat 2) Respecting, Admiring and Learning from Nature 3) Increased Self-Reliance (Self-Sufficiency) 4) Objective Analysis of everything 5) Introspection and Self-Discovery.
I like a balance of independence and inter-dependence. Not a shared-income community, but some fees for community expenses. Cooperative, wholesome, intelligent, joyful, creative, practical living. Sense of humour required and tolerance of varied spiritual beliefs and practices, and of people with none. Making a living off the land is an good option, as well as finding a job locally (economy very strong here, currently). Good if you have rural skills, but willingness to learn is enough. I have rural know-how and study homesteading and survival topics.
Lots of space in this region and lots of natural beauty. I hope to locate reasonably near the beautiful, extensive northern forests and lakes of this province, probably within 100 miles of Prince Albert. Also open to other locations. Land must be purchased or leased - to be decided. I may buy some land, perhaps jointly.
We have four seasons. Winter is long, but can be enjoyable. You can leave for all or part of it, but there are also many interesting, enjoyable things to do, indoors and out. Summers usually nice, with up to 20 hrs daylight. Many vegetables and other things grow well here. I keep honeybees. American visitors allowed to stay 6 months at a time, but if society is in turmoil, who will check/care if you stay longer?
