Toronto Ecovillage Project
Toronto, Ontario,
Canada
The Toronto Ecovillage Project is a grassroots initiative involving local residents and a coalition of non-profit organizations that seek to create an ecovillage using the co-housing model with the City of Toronto.
▀ ▀ ▀ ▀ ▀
We have a strong commitment to social justice and developing affordable housing on the site. Our community will (1) be designed (or retrofitted) to be energy efficient and to use of latest environmental technologies, (2) will provide us with the means to reduce our ecological footprint, reduce our consumption and reduce our cost of living expenses, (3) be designed to foster a sense of community, to enable a calmer pace of life and to enable our residents to live and eat healthier, (4) be designed so as to assist and further enable community activists, activist and non-profit organizations, worker cooperatives, social enterprises and small-scale artisan and environmental businesses that can help make a difference in our community, our city and in the wider world.
▀ ▀ ▀ ▀ ▀
We hope this and future projects will redefine cohousing and ecovillages with its well thought out design and be a model for future cohousing developments.
▀ ▀ ▀ ▀ ▀
You can read more about our vision in Communities Magazine Fall 2011 - Right Livelihood edition: http://communities.ic.org/issues/152/Right_Livelihood.
