Theotokos House
Theotokos House is a small Anglo-Catholic, Christian intentional community rooted in simplicity of living, contemplative prayer, Marian devotion, and social justice. We share a life of daily prayer and Bible study, meeting together daily for Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline, and once a week to celebrate the Mass.
We share an evening meal together daily, and each member is expected to share in household chores. Members are also asked to contribute to a common purse from which the community buys food and household supplies, and pays for utilities. A modest rent is also expected to reimburse the church which allows us to use their house.
Members are expected to worship on Sundays in a church of their choice, and to volunteer at least 5 hours a week in the community in areas which serve the poor and oppressed.
The founding member is a brother with the Order of St. Anthony the Great, and an Episcopal Priest. We are an ecumenical community united by our common values of prayer, simplicity, Marian devotion, and social justice.
Following the ancient practices of St Benedict, we welcome all as if they were Christ. This is an affirming and inclusive community which welcomes all regardless of race, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, or national origin.
We live a life of prayer which feeds a life of service and peacemaking. We hope to bring Christ's Good News of hope and salvation to the poor: both those who are in need of basic living needs, and those who are poor in spirit. We hope to work to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, love the lonely, etc. We also hope to work for the equal rights of women and gays and lesbians in society and for their full inclusion in the life of the Church.
