Elm Street Co-op
Ithaca, New York,
United States
We are living at the edge of the city of Ithaca, on West Hill, in a 10-bedroom house that sits on 2.5 acres. Since the beginning of the cooperative in 2008, we have had up to 12 people living here at a time, aged 4-64, including a couple of cats. We have a modest goal of simply living peacefully and happily together, with an eye toward sustainability, healthy food, and good communication. There are a couple of gardens, a greenhouse, a barn, a volleyball court, a walnut grove, a fire pit, a compost pile, and many birds and deer on the property. We are playing around with various systems and non-systems for sharing food, supplies, and chores, as we also experiment with different methods of conducting meetings and meeting everyone's needs.
