This group is non-residential, in the planning stage. We are currently saving money to purchase land in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
We are working right now to formulate our bylaws and business plan. Below is the current Statement of Purpose and Statement of Values. This is just the rough draft -- Feel free to comment! I'd love to have input on how other are or have dealt with these issues.
----------------------------------------
Statement of Purpose
The primary purpose of Kwei Yagola is to exist as a community which will provide a stable living environment for its people, unto the seventh generation. Kwei Yogola is a self sustaining village which is founded on the principles of "seven-generation" resource management, egalitarianism, self-sufficiency, cooperation, and the appreciation of humanity in all of its wonderful diversity. Everyone who lives at Kwei Yogola will be expected to work for the common good, balance the needs of the current generation against the needs of the seventh generation, protect the minority from the power of the majority, and to put these principles above individual personalities.
Statement of Values
The community is enriched by the strengths of its people. Though they must all work for the common good, each individual has the right to serve the community through their strengths, and all share the onerous tasks that no one favors. The most important members of our community are our children; all children are nurtured, taught to think critically, disciplined and educated as one, and each child will be encouraged to find and explore her or his own strengths. As far as the community is considered a State, there shall be a strict separation of church and State. Each individual has the right to spiritual and religious expression, but no one shall be forced to accept any religious dogma. Each individuals will love who and how and how many partners they prefer. Each individual has a right to the free expression of their thoughts and emotions though speech, essay and works of art, but no one has the right to inflict harm or defame other community members through their expression. An individual whose actions are judged to pervert the principles and values of Kwei Yagola shall be forced to leave the community.
