 Haribol!
Govinda Gardens is a newly-forming cooperative organic farm and eco-community in southern Mississippi. This project is connected with ISKCON New Talavan.
Right now our pioneer group consists of three people, two of which are currently growing around 2 acres of vegetables and helping manage several acres of abundant fruit and nut orchards. at New Talavan. The new eco-community is located 1/2 mile down the road from the main temple area at New Talavan.
We've leased from the temple 35 acres of fertile pasture land and forest with well water and a mobile home already in place. Our vision is to create a cooperative Krsna Conscious farm community of 4-8 people (initially) to collectively farm 3-5 acres of vegetables, grains and fruit and also operate a small dairy, all for local farmer's markets and a CSA program for the local devotee neighborhood of 60 or so people. We envision an income sharing community, sharing daily service, devotional worship in the temple, and sharing a meaningful and rich holistic life together. This is a great opportunity for any serious devotees or aspirants wishing to engage in cow protection and farming and live with like-minded enthusiastic young devotees.
We are aiming towards community/self sufficiency of all foods and dairy and also hope to produce fiber for clothes and oil for fuel, as well as timber and bamboo. We will use compost toilet systems, solar power, natural building techniques, permaculture while limiting petroleum use and imported goods. Ox power and cow protection will be major goals. We also envision operating an educational center for outreach to the larger community.
On the land we also have a beautiful secluded 2 acre spring-fed pond, around 25 acres of pasture and 10 acres of jungly woods all in a very quiet peaceful rural atmosphere. This is fertile land with nice mild winters, an amazing year-round growing season and access to a greenhouse, additional ponds, abundant large orchards, and many nice and diverse local devotees.
We can also train serious people in organic farming and cow care. Please email us if interested and we can supply more details. Thanks and Hare Krsna.
