New Kurukshetra
Central Eastern Texas, Texas,
United States
(Land is not yet purchased)
We will be purchasing land in Central Eastern Texas. All members must be vegetarian or vegan, and committed to the gradual development of sustainability and simpler lifestyles in practical ways. Intoxication, including alcohol, is not allowed.
Modern conveniences are acceptable in moderation, and as we gradually gain experience in natural lifestyles less "conveniences" become necessary.
The residential portion of the community will consist of individually-owned households on 1 or 1.5 acres each, grouped into villages of 8 households, with a village common area in the center. Each household's land is around the village, like the spokes of a wheel. Land should be productively used, for personal use or for barter within the community. Everyone must grow some percentage of their food.
Stabilized compressed earth block is our first choice in construction method, second is earthbag. Electricity and water are available via rainwater harvesting and solar panels within each household. A well will be dug in each village, for agricultural use. The community lake is for recreational and aesthetic purposes, but the water can be used in time of emergency.
Governance will be by consensus at the village level and the community level. The community will have broader rules, and each village may have more specific rules according to the resident's own choosing, within the parameters of the community rules.
While this is not a requirement, we expect that many of our members will be devotees of Krishna.

I am looking forward to the selection of a property, and the move there. The advantage to living a simple lifestyle based upon agriculture and the cows, is so relieving of material suffering, anxiety and constant agitation from needless sources found throughout the illusory urban lifestyle. Fresh air, stress-free work (at your own pace), fresh produce and good quality association are the primary attributes that await. Our group is still forming, but becoming increasingly focussed on the goal; identifying community objectives; formulating partnership-oriented relationships; consensus-building; etc... If interested, jump in as a founding member now.
