Sydney Coastal Ecovillage
New South Wales,
Australia
Sydney coastal ecovillagers
Sydney Coastal Ecovillage will be located in a rural setting that is a comfortable distance from Sydney, for work purposes and for residents to be able to stay in touch with established networks.
The project has been on the drawing board for over two years, with a committed band of interested, prospective, ecovillagers and a mailing list of over 400. The search is on for suitable land, although a 70 hectare property, already with approval for 130 dwellings, at Narara on the Central Coast, is high on the list of options. There will be a variety of dwellings, including cohousing models and opportunities for creative alternative, sustainable dwellings.
We plan to build a thriving community of over 200 people of all ages and
diversity. We envisage several village based businesses and opportunities for resource co-operatives and homegrown produce. Perhaps we will have regular markets and invite local farmers to sell their organic produce with us.
Consultants, artists, writers may come and go as assignments dictate. Our community centre will be the focal point for national conferences on sustainable living, permaculture, green building, as well as fun activities that involve the local community. Entrepreneurial and artistic pursuits will be encouraged and supported.
Our village and our processes will be a showcase and teaching ground for interested visitors. We endeavour to inspire others to live more
lightly on the earth and show that it is possible without compromising a comfortable lifestyle. We seek like-minded people who want to create a life beyond the ordinary.
