LEED Platinum home with solar panel
Cypress Villages is a sustainable, LEED quality, MSV® Community located in Jefferson County, Iowa. The community consists of 144 acres of land and over 100 home lots. All buildings are designed to meet LEED platinum standards. There are 11 different customizable home designs available. All buildings will be designed using the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda. This system aims to create harmony in the environment and the individual with three principles: direction, proportion and placement of the rooms. The entire property and all produce is certified organic. Permaculture landscape provides fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs, A CSA will manage the organic orchard, garden, row crops and apiary. Wind turbines and solar panels provide electricity for the development. Homes are primarily heated and completely cooled with geothermal energy. All buildings are also connected to the electric grid. The grid provides electricity when needed and excess renewable energy is sold back to the grid, creating net-zero energy use. A rain water catchment system from the roof tops will provide water for drinking and plumbing. Water collected in landscaped ponds will be used for irrigation and other outdoor water needs. LEED certified means all care has been taken to select renewable, recycled, recyclable, and healthful materials. The floors are bamboo. All finishes and adhesives are low or no VOC. Roof tiles are recycled rubber that will not contaminate rain runoff. An air to air heat exchanger ventilation system cycles in fresh air while preserving energy. Walls are thickly insulated and tested with a Blower Door rating. Appliances are Energy Star. Community is at the heart of the development. There are plans for a meditation hall and community center. Community land, including willow playground, walking trails and swimming ponds are available to all residents. Future plans also include commercial, retail and grocery centers. Also on property is an 8 room mini-hotel. Our first resident has moved in and several lots have been reserved. All roads are in place as well as electric lines and water lines for back-up. The orchard will be producing in the next 2 years. The organic garden and farm is already producing. Cypress Villages is located just 5 minutes from the dynamic town of Fairfield, Iowa and just and hour and a half from the larger cities of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines.
