Atamai Eco-Village
Motueka,
New Zealand
Our Vision: living well .. sustainably .. together
Our Mission: To provide a model village for a fullfilling and sustainable future.
The Concept: Atamai Village is first and foremost a village. By tradition, a village is an enduring, fully- featured settlement, where the full range of human interactions occurs. It offers greater breadth and depth of social and employment opportunities than a suburb, subdivision or even a neighbourhood.
The Setting and Layout: Located within biking distance to Motueka, a small town in the northern part of New Zealand’s South Island, the village’s land will provide attractive and comfortable housing of mixed sizes for initially 15+ families and at a later stage 40+ families.
Current Status: Atamai Village Council now owns approximately 30 ha of land on the Motueka Valley Highway, and has the option to lease or purchase a further 69 ha.
The Resource Management Consent application has been submitted for the first phase of development, with the start of construction planned for later in 2008 pending District Council approval.
