United States
(50 minutes from Los Angeles)
La Ancla is a small intentional community in West Ventura a mile from the ocean.
This community of people in their late 20s through early 40s is located on a small compound in the vibrant La Avenida neighborhood a mile from the ocean and half a mile from downtown.
Although the property is urban and small with three self-contained units, we are in the process of transforming it into an urban oasis with productive gardens, greywater systems and a deliberate style of semi-communal living.
We currently have several mature avocado trees as well as the usual garden crops with more on the way as the property is transformed.
The community is based on old school anarchist principles of self-sufficiency and equality with a focus on compassionate living. We are unabashedly pro-gay, pro-feminist, and believe in combating oppression through positive, pro-active energy.
We try and nurture a supportive, healing environment that allows everyone, guests and residents alike, the ability to foster self-growth and betterment. This is buttressed by a desire to share food and fun together! With such a great growing climate and an eight minute bike ride to some of the best surfing and diving on the coast, the balance between work and play is not at all difficult to manifest.
