Organic farmers of Costa Rica
Looking for farm in higher elevation areas,
Costa Rica
We are a homestead, farming minded family of four seeking other like-minded families to join us in the purchase of a larger piece of land which could then be divided to provide us all with the following benefits: first and foremost, the guarantee of like-minded neighbors with which to share the labor of large projects and watch over each others farms, as well as having the benefits of other children for our children to play with nearby. We are FARMERS. Unlike some other communities, our goals are truly centered around organic farming, including grass fed beef, free range poultry, pastured hogs, and large organic gardens and orchards. Our diet is centered around "paleo" type of foods, ie animals products and lots of veggies, all organic, many raw, raised in as natural a way as possible. We are also deeply committed to raising our children to be thinking, caring, and rational beings, to be accomplished with an education at home/on the farm, as well as being deeply committed to living "green", ie building with natural materials, using non-toxic household items, recycling everything we possibly can, generating our own renewable power, etc etc. We are not a religious family, although our morals are very similar to those embodied in all traditional religions. Having said all of this, we are open minded as to the dietary, religious, etc choices of others, so long as we share the desire to FARM and/or live simply, one way or another. We are looking for land in the higher elevations of Costa Rica (800+ meters) with liberal rainfall (not the seasonally wet areas) so as to ensure the best production of dairy products (ie year round green pastures) as well as vegetables. Cows and veggies just don't do nearly so well at the lower altitudes. Our main area of interest is near Turrialba, although other areas of interest include San Vito, San Isidro de General, Monteverde, etc. although the land will have to be reasonably priced per hectare wherever we end up buying. We have been living in Costa Rica for over a year now and are ready to buy NOW, or rather, as soon as we find the right piece of land and/or the right people to buy it with us (then split it of course). We feel it is very important to legally split any land that is purchased together as a way to protect the autonomy of each family, something that some of us feel is tantamount to our happiness. Yet, we still need community!! So this is our hope of having our cake and eating it too :) If you are ready to buy in Costa Rica (and preferably are already living here) please email me for more details/information and ask any other questions you may like. I wish the best to everyone; may we heal the world by healing ourselves!!
