The Shire project is an idea in the making! A work in progress!
My personal plan is to build a model for an low impact , agro-ecological, auto sufficient human settlement using independent and environment-friendly means.
The place is at 1600 mts above sea level , 40 km from the closest Mc Donald īs , and at 8 kms fromthe town of Trujillo in the Venezuelan Andes.
Hopefully, the house will gradually be able to grow at least 10.000 calories daily of diverse organic food for self-consumption with a minimal energy input to gradually reduce our reliance on industrial systems. It will be able generate a surplus to get some income. My four years plan is to plant at least 150 diferent varieties of edible and useful plants and gradually to have more perennial plants than annual/biannual plants.
Animals are part of the project too . Right now , there are 8 dairy goats, and 8 chickens.
The whole area is 6 acres incluing 2 acres of forest which I am shaping it into a rich garden forest by increasing the use of trees.
The complete design includes different zones : a fruit garden/ orchard, a salad garden, forest garden , ornamental gardens, a goat barn , a duck pond , a worm farm ,a chicken coop , and a strawberry field. I am using some permacultural tecniques.(read below info about permaculture)
The estabishment uses rain water from the roof and stores it in a water tank of 30.000 litres. I am also studying about alternative energy opinions.
