The Island
Finca San Marcos (formerly La Perla de Ometepe), is a 103 acre lakefront property on Ometepe Island in Nicaragua. Ometepe Island is considered the largest island in the world found in a freshwater lake. It is formed by two volcanoes rising from Lake Nicaragua joined by a land isthmus and measures 276 square kilometers offering a great variety of ecosystems and natural tourist attractions such as rivers, waterfalls, springs, beaches and wetlands, all characterized by their almost virgin conditions. The property has direct access to the lake.
Currently there is a farm with fruit orchards, horses, about 18,000 square feet of existing buildings that can be used for temporary living quarters, offices, restaurant/bar, hostel, and workshops, as well as a pier complete with a fishing boat and gear. The goal is to incorporate the principles of permaculture in designing a self sustainable system complete with organic farming, solar and wind power, community and living structures, eco-lodge, cabanas, restaurant, hostel, kayaks, horses, beach, bar, yoga, massage, hiking tours up the volcanoes, craft center, etc. La Perla de Ometepe is an intentional community, that is forming on a beautiful 103 acre lakefront property on the island of Ometepe, in Lake Nicaragua. It is our vision to combine quality of life with ecological and social sustainability while creating an environment of abundance
The skilled and inspired individuals and families of our community are now welcoming new members to participate in our contemporary and evolutionary lifestyle. We seek people who are friendly and open minded, forward thinking and responsible, and who will compliment our harmonious vision with their talents and their passion.
We are offering people an opportunity to co-create their own community from the ground up. Community membership of Finca San Marcos includes: your choice of available home sites with basic access, shared ownership of over 50acres of communal land, infrastructure and eventual revenue streams, along with resort and waterfront privledges. Shares will be available for a total of 40 owner-neighbors. As of this writing, 11 of these have been spoken for.
