Touching Earth Sangha
Portland, Oregon,
United States
Touching Earth Sangha is a meditation practice community dedicated to awakening the clarity and compassion at the source of our hearts and minds. We recognize the expression of that awakening as a responsible and caring lifestyle in harmony with the Earth and all creatures.
We aim to form a community that would follow a practice schedule based on traditional Zen models, as well as allowing for innovation, and for inspiration from other traditions. We also aim to be an example to the wider community of the possibility of sustainable lifestyles; living with little energy use, no cars, virtually zero waste, and generally following the highest standards of ecological and social responsibility.
We have had a daily schedule opened for anyone to join, but now just offer a Sunday gathering, until a new location is made available. In line with the spirit of contemplative traditions around the world, we offer all our programs free of charge, on a purely donation basis. We are dedicated to letting go of fear and trusting in the compassionate and caring heart - the vastness and balance of nature.
Our fundamental practice is still sitting in focused presence. We also practice taiji, qigong, and Raga sound meditation. We do not adhere strictly to any one lineage (in terms of our sitting practice, we follow the Zen style of sitting with eyes open and with particular attention on posture and breath).
We have lost our last group home to city regulations that don't allow simple living, (for example without electrical hook-ups). Now we are “Flourishing Clouds Floating Hermitage”. We currently do not have a daily schedule but everyone is welcome to join our Sunday meditation circle and our retreats and wilderness trips. See our website for locations and times. We are hoping to find a new residential practice place soon.
Feel free to contact us through e-mail. Inquiries and feedback are encouraged!
May all beings be free and joyful
