Mountain View Cohousing Community
Mountain View, California,
United States
We are a group of active adults who are creating a Cohousing Community at 445 Calderon Ave in Mountain View, CA (in the center of Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Area). The site is approximately 1 level acre, 6 blocks from Castro St and downtown amenities (restaurants and sidewalk cafes, bookstores, the performing arts center and library), near CalTrain, the Light Rail, and Bus Depot, adjacent to Landels Elementary School, and close to the Stevens Creek Trail.
We're actively looking for others who share our vision of a supportive community, where neighbors know and care about each other, in a convenient, walkable location.
We envision a 20 unit condominium development plus a 4,000 sq ft. common house, future space for shared caregivers, and the use of green and sustainable materials. Several members are avid gardeners, so our community will emphasize outdoor space for vegetable and flower gardens and fruit trees. Parking and storage will be relegated to underground areas with elevator access.
The project will be designed by members of our cohousing community via Design Workshops lead by award-winning architect Chuck Durrett of The Cohousing Company (www.cohousingco.com). We are working with a local developer, Wayne Aozasa, who will obtain entitlements, secure construction financing, and manage the building contractor. Construction should be completed by the summer of 2012.
We are now seeking new core members to join our cohousing group. Currently we have 5 core member families committed to putting down 5% of our target unit prices that will range from $750K to $1,200K.
We will need to bring in 7 more members and increase our down payments to 10% by the start of construction in January 2011. Early members get discounts on units and participate in the design process.
The first design workshop is scheduled for the weekend of November 21 with Chuck Durrett of CoHousing Partners (www.cohousingco.com). Constuction will begin in about 18 months and completion of the community in about 36 months.
You can reach our cohousing group via email (mvcohousing@earthlink.net) or by phone (the Burwen residence) at 650-965-9590.
