house ad
We are a housing cooperative located in the Westview neighborhood of Atlanta, near the West End. We are 5 housemates, looking for a Female
housemate to balance our group. We are particularly interested in current members of the Southwest Atlanta community and people of
color, as well as people who are gay or queer, people with disabilities, and people of all ages and backgrounds.
In a housing cooperative, every member functions as an equal owner of the house as opposed to the typical relationship of tenant and landlord. We want the cooperative to eventually own the house. Until that happens, everyone in the home will have equal say in decisions made in the house.
While practicing this alternative model of housing, we do a lot of fun things together such as:
 - Have regular communal meals
 - Make house decisions through consensus at weekly meetings
 - Build things, maintain and repair the house, and share skills, which help us to be more independent and interdependent
 - Grow food in our garden, and participate in the nearby community farm, as a house (more info here: http://www.cvcatlanta.org/index.htm)
 - Avoid feelings of isolation by being supportive of each other
 - Provide a meeting space for the neighborhood and activist community at large.
 - Work in solidarity with the community in struggling for social justice, especially by focusing on neighborhood and community organizing.
Also, we have two friendly cats, and your pets are welcome as long as they get along with everyone in the house. In terms of applicances, we have washer/dryer, a dishwasher, and kitchen appliances and supplies. As a benefit of sharing resources and doing house maintenance ourselves rather than paying for someone else to do it, our combined rent, maintenance, and utilities costs are low. The total monthly payment for this room is $355, which covers rent, utilities and all other house bills, costs of maintenance supplies, a share in the local urban farm CSA (weekly fresh vegetables), and a share of our house financial emergency fund. Our house is located about 1 mile from the West End and West Lake Marta stations, and is on Marta bus lines 68 and 71, which run relatively frequently.
