1614 Shared House
Atlanta, Georgia,
United States
We are a shared house located in the West End neighborhood of Atlanta. We are 5 housemates, looking for a Female housemate (non-African/American) and or people over 30 to balance our group. We are particularly interested in people with gardening skills, a bit more than basic house maintenance skills, people with Social and Human Justice interest/experience (this is the thread that binds us together).
Interest in fighting - in solidarity- for all marginalized groups. Working on anti-oppression. Within and without the house.
In a housing cooperative, every member functions as an equal owner of the house as opposed to the typical relationship of tenant and landlord. We want the cooperative to eventually own the house. Until that happens, everyone in the home will have equal say in decisions made in the house.
While practicing this alternative model of housing, we do a lot of fun things together such as:
 - Have regular communal meals
 - Make house decisions through consensus at weekly meetings
 - Build things, maintain and repair the house
 - Grow food in our garden
 - Avoid feelings of isolation by being supportive of each other
 - Provide a meeting space for the neighborhood and activist community at large.
 - Work in solidarity with the community in struggling for social justice, especially by focusing on neighborhood and community organizing.
Also, we have two friendly cats.
In terms of appliances: we have washer/dryer, a dishwasher, and kitchen appliances and supplies. As a benefit of sharing resources and doing house maintenance ourselves rather than paying for someone else to do it, our combined rent, maintenance, and utilities costs are low. The total monthly payment for this room is $407, which covers rent, utilities, basic cable, internet and all other house bills, costs of maintenance supplies, a share in the local urban farm CSA (weekly fresh vegetables.
Our house is located about 1 mile from the West End and West Lake Marta stations, and is on Marta bus lines 68 and 71, which run relatively frequently.
We also have a room that we are interested in subletting (that could turn permanent). The sublet period will run from first week of Jan. to first week in May. It's furnished. $382
