| Trumbull Plex is a housing collective composed of artists and activists. We live together, book shows together and support each other in individual grassroots projects that raise up our city.
We live in two old Victorian houses side-by-side located up the street from the old Tiger Stadium in Detroit. We became a non-profit called Wayne Association of Collective Housing in 1993.
Together we run an art space attached to the back of one house. We primarily focus on music as a weapon of love. Friends donate to watch bands, local and touring. We also host puppeteers, players, burlesque troupes and film screeners.
We have a garden on the two empty lots next door complete with fruit trees and a fire pit. We often have visitors staying for a few days or weeks who are working on documentaries about urban wildlife, for example.
Because residents are owners of the houses, we spend much of our energy fixing things around the house. Currently, we are looking for grant money to fix the slate roof so we can work toward eliminating the leaking hole in the living room ceiling.
If you would like to visit or help us fix our homes, contact trumbullplex@yahoo.com. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
