Sanctuary
Indiana,
United States
main building
The Sanctuary is set on 120 acres of wooded rolling hills in Southern Indiana. We have almost no debt and currently generate positive revenues.
We raise elk, buffalo, chickens on the ranch and, there is abundant wildlife all around our place.
The owner is a trained in raw foods, (who also loves meat) raw is part of the program but, only as much as each person wants. Here we do not judge you if you are vegan or raw or a meat eater. But we discourage anything processed.
Think of the diet here as that of our great great grandparents. For some of you, your great, great, great grand parents, providing they lived out west during the mid 1800's.
Here we eat, Elk and Buffalo that we raise ourselves on site, Venison from the local deer population, grass fed beef from the local farmers. There is a farmers market an hour away here, we can buy most greens and vegetables that are in season. Rice, lentils and beans is a daily staple at the ranch. We have a grow room where we grow sprouts and wheat grass for green drinks and as our food.
Currently on the farm we grow grapes, we have 1000 plants and 7 varieties that are now 5 years old and considered mature. We also have black berries, raspberries and blueberries that we planted this past year.
Growing wild here are several persimmon trees that have a wonderful sweet fruit.
Presently we plant a few acres of sweet corn and have lined out a new area for a 3 acre organic garden. The ponds on site is loaded with dish, turtles and frogs.
The buildings & housing are in place for living. There are still certain issues to workout. We have jobs for people that can work with little direction. We have room for a person to be the general manager of the operations. We have a 5 bedroom house, a bunk room that sleeps 10, a small cabin that sleeps 4. We would like to build earth bag construction homes for residents that stay for more than a year. Our weight gym is 1500 sq ft, our martial arts, yoga & pole fitness gym is 2000 sq ft. This place really has much more than most communities.
This place is not just a guy or gal with an idea and dream, the place is paid for, building in place, jobs available. YOU MUST PASS A 3 WEEK TRIAL AND BE VOTED IN OR, NOT. We need people who want to contribute and live the live and not just observe the life from the deck. There will be clear cut expectations on every member. These expectations will be written by the group. This is a work hard and perhaps little or no pay starting out program. As the community does better, so shall you.
You should expect that this slice of life will be an experience that you will share with others for a long time during your journey .
Projected jobs on the ranch
These positions are posted below as not to seek " employees" but to make it clear that the ranch is set up and able to provide real work so that it can carry the financial load of members.
To many communities with good intentions, either want to charge their members a " buy in " fee or, have no real means to support the group that they attract.
We have had people here that want the life but not the work. My intentions are to be very clear. To be part of this life ( at least here) requires work. 4 days a week, six hours per day.
You can take care of goats, chicken, Elk, buffalo and what ever animal strays in to this place. Getting the chicken to lay eggs and put them where you want them is not alwayse the case here.
Grounds keeper-
These positions are working out side keeping up the golf course, mowing the grass cutting fire wood and general landscaping. Additionally, they will drive the hay wagon during our Saturday night bon fire and hay wagon dinners for the local tourist.

Hay wagon / Chuck wagon dinners
We own a haw wagon that seats 22 people. We would like to begin offering weekend hay wagon rides and serve a simple chuck wagon dinner in our barn.
Revenue projections look very good.
Where ....magazine
I published this magazine locally 4 years ago and it was break even the first month. Due to many forces pulling at my time I dropped this venture after 1 year. This is an easy business that takes 3 people to effectively run successfully.
The magazine is designed to generate community income but its true reason to public is to draw tourists to our ranch for hay wagon rides etc.
Revenue projections look OK-
Elk burger stand sales
Easy to manage business. It takes two kitchen staff and two people working in burger stands to financially support the entire community.
Revenue projections: Excellent
Golf course
On site we have a golf course that is private on the property. With a little work and marketing in our magazine, it could be a very good source of income- It is not open to the public.

New ideas
We are open to new ideas, we are very keen on ideas to generate income that require little or no startup cash!
The Winery
With 1000 mature grape vines in the ground we need only revenues from other ventures to carry the loan to buy wine making equipment. Under 60K ! , the winery would create 5 to 6 more revenue producing positions. The business plan is complete and has been sent to experts and Purdue for review, they signed off and we have a solid realistic plan.
Revenue projections : Excellent
Hops production
We purchased our first 100 hops rhizomes that will be planted in the spring.
