United States
We are a poly-family of three adults and three children who are seeking others to start an intentional community. We have not yet decided where we'd like to eventually end up; we do know we prefer warmer climates, and have begun looking at different areas of Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. We provide for our family through freelance writing and editing work that allows us to spend the majority of our time in our home, and we look forward to a time when we can focus our efforts on building our permanent home and creating gardens and beautiful spaces to sustain us.
We began unschooling our children this fall and are striving to teach them to live more simply without sacrificing the quality of our lives. We are enjoying helping them learn to find joy in simpler ways, such as playing card and board games, reading, playing outdoors, and helping the adults in our daily tasks, while still occasionally watching PBS and educational DVDs and playing video games. Our family is moving towards community living as our chosen lifestyle, and we are actively working towards and looking forward to the day when we live with other like-minded individuals in a rural setting, all working towards common goals of understanding, acceptance, personal freedom, environmental responsibility, and self-sufficiency.
The adults in our family range in age from 27 to 33. Our children are a precocious ten-year-old boy, an energetic seven-year-old boy and a sweet and intelligent two-year-old girl.
We are interested in alternative building techniques, such as papercrete, strawbale construction, and earthen plasters. We have spent the last couple years learning to feed our family in a much more healthful and sustainable way, leaning more towards vegetarianism and buying quality, organic products. We have been learning about herbal and natural medicine and are passionate about the fact that our bodies are able to heal without invasive medical procedures and artificial drugs.
Our community needs to be a dynamic, diverse village. Many varieties of gender expression, sexuality, ages, family structures, spiritualities, and lifestyles would be welcome within our community.
