A 2nd Attempt: Cheap land and interesting people
to be decided, British Columbia,
Canada
My husband, our roommate, and I want to join people ready to start a collectively owned community in British Columbia or Hawaii. Our goal is to buy a large parcel of land with water where we can build cob houses and possibly cultivate and grow our food. But the food issue is down the line. The cob houses are the primary focus: hence British Columbia. All trades are welcome. This is not a cohousing community; you will be apportioned square footage to build your house out of a large tract of land purchased in common.
A lot of communities have restrictions. We think that everybody should do as they please in their own house. Houses should be as far from each other as possible. We advocate privacy and freedom. No dietary restrictions or spiritual affiliation is necessary. Discrete use of alcohol and tobacco on your premises is OK. We would like a lot of artists, and people with building skills. Shared meals are voluntary, but in general, the shared-meal model is not the kind of community we envision. Why? Because some people work nights. Artists need privacy and flexible schedules, and children need regular meals. So this will be up to individual members. You must have your own income. We would like this to be affordable: $17,000 per person, $50,000 per family, and perhaps better if we get a good piece of land and enough members. We welcome ideas!
Now that the economy is tanking in the US, the other western countries will see their economies tank also. Let's act now and be prepared. Please contact me ASAP.
