The Establishment
San Luis Obispo, California,
United States
The Establishment is a 19-bedroom home in downtown San Luis Obispo. Our community is loosely organized around house dinners, home projects, group fun and community projects.
Rent and bills are organized more like a apartment complex than a co-op, everybody is individually responsible to the landlord. House chores are assigned on a rotating basis and you are expected to do yours. The large kitchen, den and backyard are the only shared common areas - this is where "everything" happens.
We are not hippies as many in town would believe, but we are alternative. To live here you need a tough skin but a generous soul. Normally accepted etiquette is often discarded here. Residents are usually nature loving, educated, artistic and physically active.
Some residents own a car, some actually drive it - more common forms of transportation for us are bicycle, bus and foot. The number of vegan/vegie residents varies - food cooked at home is usually vegetarian though.
