North Coast Eco-Community Discussion Group
Bellingen, New South Wales,
Australia
North Coast Region NSW (that we cover)
 We are not a community as such but a Discussion Group, the focus of which is to foster the formation of new communities.
Our central focus area is Bellingen/Coffs Harbour (NSW). However, we cover from Port Macquarie to Yamba.
Who are we?
North Coast Eco-Community Discussion Group was formed to assist people in learning about and forming intentional communities, ecovillages and multiple-occupancy properties, with an ecological awareness in mind.
It aims to:
• educate people about more affordable strategies for sustainable rural living;
• provide a dynamic network of people connected by common values and a common need for affordable rural property;
• provide an information portal, both through access to written and electronic literature and through individuals’ personal experiences with community living;
• break down some misconceptions about community living, and build a realistic image about the many variations on community living;
• assist people in designing a successful well planned community, so as to avoid the minefield of potential disputes and other conflicts associated with living on shared land or within an intentional community;
• assist in finding properties both on the real estate market and by advertising for property in suitable rural areas;
• organise group meetings, encouraging people to meet other members for the purpose of forming smaller groups of like-minded people who can then get to know and trust each other, decide on common values, and then purchase land together;
• organise group visits to existing communities and ecovillages;
• organise presentations by various speakers who have lived in ecovillages or communities.
The Discussion Group has no joining process that binds members; however, we value the following:
• Communication: making a post to introduce yourself, your background, and what you seek in a community;
• Respect for each other: attempting to appreciate others’ ideas before criticising, and, when necessary, criticising in a compassionate manner;
• Permaculture principles: sustainable design, sustainable lifestyle, organic food production, treading lightly on the earth and the native wildlife.
