| This farm is located 12 kilometers northwest of Pokhara, at an elevation of 3327 feet. The farm is spectacular, isolated from other land and with wonderful scenery. The area of the farm is about 16 acres, which can be extended to up to 40 acres. SIOF is known as a demonstration farm of SADP-Nepal, where various research is being done. Ultimately, the goal of this farm is to develop as a resource center. At present, the following activities have been happening here.
1. Organic crops (vegetables and other crops): Various vegetables and other crops are being cultivated. Vermicompost is the basic fertilizer used on the farm. Cow urine and other liquid fertilizers are also being used. To control disease and insects, we have been using bio-pesticides that are locally prepared with local vegetation.
2. Organic livestock: Cows, buffalo, and goats are being kept organically on the farm. The main purpose of this is to supply manure, urine, milk, and meat.
3. Agritourism: Organic agritourism is another main goal of this farm. The farm is in a beautiful location, with panoramic views of mountains. The Seti River, the main river of Pokhara valley, also flows beside the farm. The landscape is wonderful, with various vegetables growing organically with their own irrigation system. Pure organic Nepali food will be served on the farm, with delicious dairy products.
So many other activities have been going here. There also other farms in the area where visitors or volunteers can enjoy getting their hands dirty.
