The Optimum Living Alliance is a community that began forming in August 2009 on Maui, dedicated to Light Footprint Living. We seek to allow health and happiness to all life while being attentive to the impact our lifestyles and choices have on our Selves and the Earth. For this reason we embrace and promote ahimsa (veganism), intentional harmlessness or the ethic of minimal harm to others. Community outreach and education, optimum health, organic agriculture, personal and community integrity, and conscious evolution are among the primary focuses of our work. This is a foundational sustainable community that has the intention of supporting visionaries and generating leaders in the creation of future sustainable intentional communities with similar light footprint aspirations. In addition to the 14-acre Hawaiian Homestead parcel on which we hold a 99-year lease, we have just leased an additional 20 acres with its own waterfall (see pictures). We will be moving onto the land over the next few months. Please read our description, visit our website, and contact us. We will have the visitor/resident agreement drawn up soon. We will be happy to provide the present version of our vision/mission statement as well.
Our website is primarily a resource for those who wish to learn more about Light Footprint Living and the benefits of a plant-based diet and lifestyle. Please feel free to browse the site and provide us with any feedback that you think would be helpful to this cause. We have already begun prospecting for more land to expand onto and there are a couple of strong candidates. With the exception of Komolani, they all have access to gorgeous waterfalls and pools. Our main need right now is a strong membership with which to begin developing community outreach programs and to populate the main center and its soon-to-be-sprouting satellites.
