Dancing Bear Ecovillage

United States
(TBD - NH/Mass area.)
The idea is a sustainable living, ecovillage. Income is generated from multiple areas. Some work off-site and are asked to pay a percentage of their earnings. Some work within the community in farming, animal husbandry, building, etc… and be given a small amount of financial compensation. Some have “home-businesses” in which they work on location and sell their product to the public (i.e.-website design, crafts, artwork). Some will be a part of the farm stand, craft store, or other community business. Some may do a combination. Flexibility is key. Everyone will put in equal amounts and receive equal compensation. We’ll be more flexible with personal vehicle than most communities. Members will be allowed to have their own vehicles. If personal vehicles are used for community tasks the owner will be compensated. We’d also like to have community vehicles for work and whatever. We will stress the importance of low-impact vehicles. Making our own biodiesel or veg oil would be good. One of the big things about this community is the flexibility it offers. Lots of communities are very strict and offer very little of the comforts of most normal people. Some people may be more extreme in their practices whereas some may just want to grow their own food and not be so strict. We will all compromise to live together in harmony. Housing and building general structures will be up to the individual. Some will choose only sustainable materials from the earth to build their homes whereas some will want to use some of the more commercially available and easier to use products. We will stress the importance of using reclaimed and recycled materials. Our goal will be to reduce our footprint, not living larger than we need to, and waste as little as possible. We will grow and raise as much food as we possible can organically. Our hope is that we can sustain 90-95% of our own food, barter with other local organic food sources, and hopefully waste nothing. Diet will be up to each individual. My hope is that we can also raise our own animals, hunt, and fish for food. Energy conservation will be important. My goal is to have all of our electricity provided by sources on-site, such as solar, wind, and water. We don’t necessarily have to be completely off the grid. Ideally it would be nice to create more energy than we need and barter with the electric company for the times we do need it, like winter. All ages, races, sexualities, and religions are welcome.
