CoHousing Sonoma County
Please note that as of January 2010 our group is inactive due to lack of active, committed members. We are hopeful that this will change so we are maintaining our previous posted information - following.
We are currently in negotiations with the One Planet Community (www.oneplanetcommunities.org), and Sonoma Mountain Village (www.sonomamountainvillage.com), in Rohnert Park, located in lovely Sonoma County, California.
We are committed to a healthy, safe, and supportive community in which to raise children, grow, mature, and age in place. We desire an expanded and fulfilling relationship with each other, our neighbors, and the world beyond our community. We share a deep respect for the natural world and our human connection to it, and propose a sustainable community and lifestyle in harmony with the earth.
We welcome the richness of our diversity including abilities, perspectives, wisdom, cultures, and life experiences. We will interact with respect and support of one another as primary goals. We are committed to active participation in community life, and to using a range of decision-making tools, including consensus. We embrace the opportunity to share our talents, skills, and resources with other members of our community.
Our neighborhood will be designed to encourage communication and cooperation among the residents, while maintaining their desired level of privacy. We envision 30 units, half of them families with children. We also envision the possibility of a separate and neighboring senior cohousing community, with extensive interaction between the communities. We intend to preserve green space and a natural environment, while enjoying proximity to a town center located within walking distance.
As of January 2008, we currently have eight full members, representing six households.
