Sage Sparrow is a forming intentional community in Western New York. We have a small group of four people currently who are looking to buy land and build a permaculture site in Southern Tier of Western New York. Our aim is to create an inclusive, unitarian community which honors all traditions in the way in which these traditions honor Mother Earth and its ecology. Currently, most of our members are Native American or Pagan. We are not averse to raising free range livestock, but are interested in creating organic, healthful surroundings that work with nature, use geothermal heating as much as possible and are not reliant on outside gas and electricity. Community activities would include workshops given by our members to discuss the ways in which our various spiritual paths have brought us to a reverence for the earth. This is the focus of a non-profit religious group which is currently seeking its NPO status entitled Mother Earth Temple.
A future consideration would be to create a setting similar to Camphill Village, but without the overtly Christian ethic, which would serve to provide housing to developmentally disabled adults who would be trained in permaculture and agriculture to the extent that they are able to. As the group home waiting lists become increasingly long, this would provide such individuals with the ability to live and work in an ecovillage community setting.
