Welcome to our Ranch
The Wild Horse Ranch Association has been building improvements on a large, pristine piece of homestead land in Alberta, Canada. While most of the land still retains its natural state, the land we are improving is fairly sophisticated in its planning. We have a completely functional workshop for all repairs and maintenance, as well as a functional central ranch house. We have a very large organic garden which is subirrigated through a berm system. We have a lot of infrastructure set up already for new members. The Wild Horse Ranch embraces “small footprint” ideas and ecological sustainability. We also see the possibilities for technology to provide alternative ways of meeting our needs. We have a variety of skills available and we are willing to train members in trades such as carpentry, welding, machining, and mechanics.
The Wild Horse Ranch is home to an adopted herd of horses from CFB Suffield. We train a few of the horses for show work to promote our community and raise public awareness.
There is absolutely no charge or fee for individuals interested in joining our ranch. All expenses are covered, but you are expected to help out with the day-to-day running of the ranch.
There are a wide variety of opportunities available on our ranch. Please feel free to visit our website or to contact me if you have any questions.

I've been involved with the Ranch for over 2 1/2 years. Currently I am apprenticing for Heavy Duty Mechanics. There are a wide variety of things to learn helping out at the Ranch and I encourage those interested in learning new skills to contact us!

I spent only a few days out on the ranch with Pat. However, in that short time, Pat showed me how to fix my carburetor, gallop on a horse, and operate a back hoe. Pat is someone with a lot of knowledge, and even better, he is eager to share his knowledge. For anyone interested in self-sufficiency, Pat provides an atmosphere where learning skills that will help you your whole life is inevitable. I really valued my time there, and I hope that one day when I go visit, the Wild Horse Ranch will be a booming operation, helping people enjoy a simple life and appreciating the beautiful setting. (It's great that now there is a website! I hope it brings the multitudes ASAP.)

Last week my wife and I had the chance to stay with Pat and visit Wild Horse Ranch. The horses are beautiful, intelligent, and well cared for.

Pat is a very interesting, knowledgeable, and talented fellow - a genius in practical matters and a dreamer to boot. He has no end to ideas on how to make the operation better and how to include more people in it. The one thing he needs is help - seriously committed, long-term help to get this operation moving toward its full potential.

Our thanks goes to Pat for his generous hospitality. Did I mention he is a pretty darn good cook? I wish our stay could have been longer so that we could have offered a little much-needed work in return for his kindness.

If you can, go visit the ranch and see if it's right for you and, more importantly, if you're right for it.
