Berrigan House
New York, New York,
United States
Berrigan House is just getting started. As a matter of fact, the idea is only about a month old, but it's already learning how to walk and talk. We are in the process of looking for people and a place and want to do as much of that together as possible.
Specifically, we are looking for between roughly three and six people to form an intentional community in the New York City metropolitan area, preferably in the Upper Westside, Harlem, or Washington Heights neighborhoods. These folks should be sociable people, individuals who would draw energy from the fact that their home at times will be a small community center of sorts. Having said that, we are not trying to form a public house and are seeking a nice balance between community and private life.
It is very important to us that all of the eventual community members of Berrigan House help form the community with shared ideas and goals; but in general, we are looking to form a community that is social justice centered, spiritually filled, and one where we'd commit to building and maintaining community by sharing an evening meal once a week, working in the surrounding community together in some capacity, and having our home open for occasional talks, dinners, small events, and guests.
Financially we would like to share rent, food, and utilities.
We are looking to form a diverse and rich community with folks of various backgrounds and experiences. All faiths (or no faith), races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and political beliefs are welcome.

I wouldn't use the word "architect" but we envision Berrigan House to be modeled after the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and/or the Catholic Worker.
