We are an organically inspired eco-farm and learning center for heritage food and fiber, healing arts, and revitalization of rural culture.
Like-minded folks are welcome to join us as we continue to build and evolve our vibrant intentional residential community in Southern Wisconsin. Earn land use rights by homesteading here with your own farm enterprise and participating in Community farming.
At HILLSPRING, we strive to:
ENGAGE in joyful, loving relationships with each other, the farm and the world while we
CREATE an ecologically responsible & sustainable intentional farm community of homes and activities that
NURTURE our minds, bodies and spirits
Hillspring's VISION is to:
OWN and manage the farm's land collectively
BUILD “green” private dwellings with a common house for community meals & gatherings
USE renewable resources, minimize energy consumption and share resources
GROW our own food and fiber from heirloom seeds and heritage breeds
USE healing modalities that nurture mind and body wellness
ENCOURAGE community compatible cottage businesses
TEACH & PRACTICE homesteading skills, sustainable living and folk traditions
CELEBRATE DIVERSITY by including all ages, religions, cultures, ethnic groups and sexual orientations.
WELCOME and SHARE the abundance of our farm community.
Current community residents: Mark Kessenich, Linda Derrickson and David Swanson; Additional members moving to Hillspring next year: Kyle Strosahl, Alisha Ohlert, and Katie Brown. Other folks are involved as "Week-enders" and/or periodic participants in farm work and activities.
Our farm is 154 rolling acres with large pastures, hayfields, woods, vegetable & herb gardens, young fruit trees, an interior valley with a natural spring and lots of wild life.
There are many farming opportunities for new members to explore at Hillspring including vegetables & fruits for CSA or other direct marketing, goat or sheep dairying, herb production, bee keeping, carpentry, teaching folk arts & crafts, etc.
Our extended community includes a good small town school as well as a strong homeschool network. There are several employers for seasonal and part time work to supplement farm income. We are surrounded by a delightful mix of old timey farmers & new age farmers, living next to artisans, musicians, professors, commuters, and back-to-the-landers.
