Auburn Ecohousing
Auburn, California,
United States
(Pursuing a single green urban building, to retrofit for green loft-type residences)
After working since March 2007 to find an appropriate site, our small group of "pioneers" has finally decided to work towards securing a more urban site near the downtown area of Auburn. The site currently has a green built, large single three story structure, which hasn't been completed inside. It would require retrofitting for approximately 18-20 loft-type residences, as well as a Common area with fully equipped kitchen, dining room and guest rooms, and outdoor space for vertical or in ground organic gardens.
The site is in walking distance to stores, shops, the train station, library and post office and a public bus stop.
The population of Auburn is 12,000, and including the outskirts is 40,000. Our highest priority is sustainable construction: green, environmentally friendly, using solar power.
