Dark Skies Kinship
Elkhart County, Indiana,
United States
 Whence the name?
Dark Skies--because to walk out on any clear night under three thousand distant suns blazing is the birthright of all humanity; something that few people in our industrial age have ever experienced. . . and something that will become again part of humanity's inheritance, as the current Peak Oil crisis tightens its grip, and the price of electric lighting slips out of the range of the masses.
Kinship--because our present system of the nuclear family (and even that crumbling) is a biological and historical abberation; we were made to be (and for nearly all of our collective history have always been) integral parts of something greater than ourselves.
This listing is for those who realize that the oil is running out, and that the coming decade will see tectonic shifts in the social fabric of our nation.
It's for those who realize that "globalization" is a polite term for the wealthy and well-connected devouring all the rest.
It's for those who realize that the American economy is in terminal decline, and that serious-minded people of good will must begin to step back from it if they are to have any future.
Our goal is to get off the grid (lamplight and horses rather than solar panels) and outside the current economy; to rediscover what it is to be part of a clan, or tribe; to make virtue of necessity, and show that there is an alternative to the way of life that is now failing.
There is a visionary element to all this (I have been seeing industrial civilization coming to a jarring halt since my childhood in the Appalachian backwoods, long before I had ever been to a city with a population of more than a thousand), but I do not in any way consider myself to be a prophet, or seer, or anything other than a person with his eyes open; someone who reads the newspaper and follows things out to their logical conclusion. I'm not interested in helping to found a cult, a militia, or a harem.
If any of this resonates with you, contact me, and let's see how closely our visions align.

Dietary Practice:
Other
(Simplicity and sanity; to feed oneself well in an Earth as abundant as ours is not a hardship, unless one chooses for it to be so.)
Alcohol Use:
Seldom used
(Once the Kinship has formed, it might seem good to everyone to do away with alcohol altogether; or to give everyone a monthly ration of wine, as do the Hutterites. But this is a question for the future, as the culture of the community is taking shape.)
Tobacco Use:
Used Occasionally
(This question has the same answer: it's not really possible to say, until the community has formed.)
Social Factors
Open to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and/or Transgender members:
No
(However, such individuals who realize that they've been sold a self-destructive lifestyle, and want to escape it, will find a great deal of support.)
Restrictions on Romantic Relationships (between consenting adults):
Yes
(The restrictions of responsibility, respect, and self-respect.)
Shared Spiritual Path:
No Answer
(It seems more important that the community share a common morality than that it share a common theology.)
