The Big Earth House
California,
United States
(Santa Cruz)
 A big Victorian house in Downtown Santa Cruz, with people committed to healthy living, open communication, and earth stewardship! The house environment is friendly, fun, creative, and relaxed cooperative living without any tight structure or particular "philosophy".
Currently ten members. Two members, who are a couple, own the house, and all other members pay rent to them.
We welcome all ages, all sexual orientations, all heritages. Occasional shared meals, monthly house meetings. Clean kitchen and fairly tidy common areas. No loud music, no smoking/marijuana/drugs/heavy drinking; we like the house almost substance-free (wine/beer in moderation is okay). Some but not all of us are vegetarian; house meals are vegetarian but not vegan.
The common areas of the house include:
* front and back yard gardening
* porch
* living room, dining room, family room
* big community-oriented kitchen (extra appliances)
* washer/dryer inside
* basement storage (limited)
* bike rack area
* communication boards
* art display board

I have visited this house and am close friends with one family that lives there. It's a really interesting place, with very good energy, and a great location -- within walking distance of all the cool Santa Cruz stuff.

They have a bunch of solar panels on the roof and I think this cuts their grid electricity usage to zero, or way down, anyway. They quietly engage in a lot of other activities and choices coming from a sincere commitment to living sustainably, and promoting peace.

I am inspired by these people. :)
