This is my vision (hopefully soon to be *our* vision). A thinktank of like-minded individuals, accustomed to cooperation but with a real desire to MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN.
An open space and working environment for freelance writing, community outreach, political action, direct action.
A commitment to working for the causes we care about, pooling our resources to work less on the grid, to accept travellers and activists on our bunkbeds and in our kitchen, to save for direct-action travelling.
Developing short and long term goals. Making a difference in the statistics for waste, air pollution, soil erosion, deforestation through well-thought action. Beginning to sustain ourselves through green business, freelancing, consulting, (or, I like biodiesel-hybrid taxi service).
What do we care about? I can only speak for me: environmental benignity of goods, sustainable agriculture and biofuels, urban efficiency in energy and waste, promotion of sustainable consumerism, protection of bikers and greenspace, watershed management, promotion of renewable energy, human rights and third-world development.
Why? Because I am a living man, and I've got work to do (sang Bob Marley). And because the action of the 21st century environment is based on ideas, cooperation, education and compromise with the institutions that surround us. And because the environment in this century is not limited to my family, my home, or my backyard.
Where? A regular, old, dirty city. Montreal, Philly, Buffalo, Baltimore. Your hometown. In an apartment with a internet nervous system and a compostable waste stream, with a roof of veggies and plants, using and buying renewable, efficient energy.
