Lofstedt Farm Community
Kaslo, British Columbia,
Canada
Sixty-acre BIODYNAMIC farm based community located in the beautiful Kootenay mountains. Pleasant climate, mild summers and cool winters. The farm, surrounded by Crown Forests, is located five minutes south of Kaslo. The three main businesses are: Lofstedt Farm, Lofstedt Gardens CSA, and Lofstedt Farm Forestry Society (LFFS) The latter is a 1500 acres Govt. owned woodlot in our watershed, managed by Peter Van Allen. Besides the recently added Bio-Diesel production plant, we are planning to build a new barn for our dairy-cows and a new home for the owners. Over the last 20 years, a great number of volunteers have participated in our Internship Program to practice ecological sustainable organic farming. The elderly Swiss owners want to retire and to preserve the farm as a BIODYNAMIC Learning Center. They are looking for a small number of families to take out a share in the land ownership, help manage the farm and CSA garden, and build their own homes. We also need younger trainees eager to learn and to help with hay-making, grain growing, gardening and greenhouse work, washing produce and marketing it, building, animal husbandry, bee-keeping, working with tractors and draft horses, logging and surveying, dairying and food processing and some old-fashioned crafts in the bargain.
