I can attest to the fact that we are not like-minded and cannot be, because none of us really just takes the bible literally. We say we do, but it is not literal in the sense that nothing is added to it, taken away from it or diminished from it by virtue of our “systematic theology” which is eisegesis really. We are all influenced by some mans theology it seems, and not “that which we have heard from the beginning” (see 1st epistle of John) The only solution for us, if we are going to work together in these last days is to find our like mindedness by rejecting all of mans doctrines and being taught doctrine by God (Is. 28; 2nd Tim. 3). We cannot have a false unity at the expense of doctrine, since abiding in Him is what will give us our confidence at His coming: 1 John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. Since we all agree on this point, we have to change, because, we all cannot be right. Furthermore, since 1st John says that no lie is of the truth, we need to stop giving in and not settle for anything less than just scripture, in doctrine, teaching and preaching, or we will not be able to save ourselves or anyone listening 1 Tim. 4:16. We are currently seven brothers who meet at different times and places depending on our schedules. We are exhorting each other and we are having great times of fellowship. At other times, things are tough because we have been deceived by so much false doctrine and we ourselves are lethargic and unmotivated to win the lost. Nevertheless, we do see the need to strengthen what little remains, return to our first love and do our first works, and we are coming out of the deception. We talk often about the deception in our hearts and minds and help each other to unravel it and learn the word. We were all resistant to the truth at first, though we felt we knew the truth of scripture. I encourage you to just keep on trying even though there is so much resistance. It is paying off for us to just keep plugging away at fellowship and exhortation.
