Island EcoFarm
Victoria, British Columbia,
Canada
(Ecovillage Site Development in Process)
Island EcoFarm Project invites individuals, couples and families of varying farming backgrounds to join us in creating our EcoFarm.
We are an interdependent, diverse and cooperative farming group actively seeking members to share our lives and common goals.
As we’re in the beginning phases of Island EcoFarm, we especially need members/supporters with permaculture building and organic/biodynamic/csa farming experience, as well as hardworking, "hands-on", visionary people to help
with the building of Island EcoFarm.
Island EcoFarm envisions a cluster of homes designed to minimize ecological disturbance, and maximize land area and use for sustainable farming, forest regeneration, wildlife habitat restoration, recreational enjoyment and co-operative living.
Island EcoFarm will use building methods and materials, which include: earth berming, cob and straw bale construction; solar heating; thermal mass & wind power; compost toilets;
rainwater catchments; and grey water irrigation, to enable living "off grid".
Island EcoFarm's plan is to produce and consume food locally and sustainably.
will begin with growing practices which follow permaculture* principles.
The EcoFarm will supply residents and surrounding communities depending on CSA* and other local market demands.
Island EcoFarm will dedicate space for the learning and teaching of permaculture ideas, and for the sharing of knowledge, experience, and guidance from our Ecofarm activities. The Island EcoFarm educational centre will offer workshops and courses, and envisions learning partnerships with organizations and schools enthusiastic about sustainable living and ecology.
The Island EcoFarm site is proposed for a farm located about 250km from Victoria BC, in the mid North of Vancouver Island. Favorable aspects of this area include:
- sufficient acreage to implement a comprehensive EcoFarm plan and to protect property from neighboring development
- land has adequate water supply, good soil quality
- proximity to public transportation (bus, ferry, air) and to town
- good schools for children of all ages
- supportive neighbors
-fast and progressively growing area
We look forward to building and farming our dreams together!
