The Commons Ecovillage
Victoria, British Columbia,
Canada
(Ecovillage Site Purchase Pending on Core Group Foundation)
The Commons Ecovillage is an interdependent, diverse and cooperative group seeking members to share a sustainable, creative, happy lifestyle and work to achieve common goals.
We’re in the forming phase of The Commons Ecovillage, so we are creating a small core group of ready and committed individuals to plan and invest in the foundation of Commons Ecovillage and who have the social, financial and experiential skills (OR the willingness to learn them :) to develop the core legal, financial and social structures of The Commons Ecovillage.
Please get in touch if seriously interested (and meet the above criteria) and we will provide more information about the ecovillage project.
When the core group has formed and the ecovillage structures and location have been established, we would then invite more members and supporters to join The Commons Ecovillage who have some of the skills and experience to establish off-grid energy systems, natural building, permaculture, organic/biodynamic farming, educational programs and/or are simply and wonderfully "handy", hardworking, “hands-on” folks.
The Commons Ecovillage plans to create an educational center to host year round workshops and small festivals related to sustainability, art and healing.
The Commons Ecovillage plans to build a cluster of natural homes designed to minimize ecological disturbance (or no impact ie. "net zero" if possible) and maximize land area for farming, renewable energy production, wildlife and habitat rehabilitation, recreational enjoyment, and cooperative living. We will use natural building methods, materials and systems to enable us to eventually live “off-grid".
The Commons Ecovillage plan is to consume food that is produced locally and sustainably. Therefore the onsite farm will supply residents and perhaps surrounding communities, with fresh, naturally grown food.
The location for The Commons Ecovillage is still being discussed - while the Westcoast is our preferred location, land prices are high and so we are also considering the interior of BC.
We are looking to be within about 30 min to a town or small city, with the following features:
• sufficient acreage (100 acres+) for a comprehensive Ecovillage plan
• good water supply, soil quality and wilderness access
• good proximity to public transportation (bus, ferry, air) and to town
• good schools for children of all ages
• a progressive, sustainably minded population
If this vision speaks to you, please get in touch!
