Montello Homestead
Lafayette, Indiana,
United States
Hi, my name is Abby. My husband and I just purchased 5 acres of raw land in Montello, Nevada. We are currently in Indiana and are moving the end of this week. Our long term goal is to have organic farming for our personal use via a large green house, we are intend to have a goat for milk, a couple sheep, acouple chickens, and a couple of horses. As soon as we get there we are going to start working in the nearby town (25 mi away) and we are going to purchase a small cabin kit for 5,000-10,000 to live in. We plan on using a composting toilet and a generator for electricity( which we will keep to a minimum) and some solar. Our water will be via holding tank. The main reason why we purchased this land is because we are tired of getting taken advantage of and paying for unnecassary things. We were renting an aparting for 525 a month and paying 160 for electric, 60, for gas, 35 for water and we have nothing to show for it after our lease is up. We are looking for 1 or 2 couples or individuals (children welcome) that are willing to work a full or part time job in town (unless you can support yourself with savings) plus work hard to the land into a small homestead. We hope to eventualy only have to wok minimal hours at a "real" job and live off of the land and cottage industries. We prefer someone who has a special skill to offer like horse and livestock knowledge, a nurse, gardening knowledge, construction, etc, but will accept you if you are the "right" person even if you have no skills.
