(Seeking to start up)
Am looking for like minded people to form an intentional community on the outskirts of Brisbane, perhaps around Ipswich. There are many pretty, hilly (& perhaps still collectively affordable) areas surrounding Ipswich which is more of an underrated & overgrown country town rather than a city; eg Rosevale, 1/2hr west, where deceased estate farms are popping up for auction.
(Some commute over 2hrs inland to the groovier coastal Byron Bay in Nthn NSW. While Brisbane -approx 1hr- isn't that , there's various cultural and other access to be had, regardless.)
Envisage a non-elitist set up, with workable homes in the tradition of solar passive, green energy, ecologically sustainable designs. I see permaculture orchards-in-common if not vege gardens with all plantings based on bio-dynamic principles. Also locale appropriate native & low water hardy plantings in uplifting scapes. Given the water issue, extensive collection/tank infrastructure. Composting loos etc.
Anticipate a convergence of wholesome, ethical people aspiring/committed to improving health and awareness on all levels. While we may subscribe to different sets of beliefs, respecting others' along with the usual sensitivity to people of varying backgrounds and cultures, a given. Essentially where people create true peace and beauty to live amongst.
A fundamental (and otherwise deal-breaking) value would be the provision & upholding of a safe, nurturing, harmonious, optimistic, creative & stimulating environment for children. For that reason I do not feel particularly fascist over the issue of canines and felines, and fine, if the consensus felt that a nightly restriction was a compromise to the native animal population.
Another core feature: while of course we enjoy our sweet or otherwise toxic laden treats, prefer people to be sensible and aside from perhaps the odd occasion, want it a distinctively junk and 'numbers & colours' free food zone, i.e. organic. Ditto other addictions. The 'island within the island' refuge for those who feel war weary & alienated by societal norms.
I'm dying in urban sprawl! Is it possible? What's lost by trying? Whoever feels the same way and is wanting to make the jump, please contact me. Oh and the name 'Light' was just to fill in the field, so this is just the seed waiting to be germinated. It could be an area appropriate Aboriginal name, better still their blessing in a smoking ceremony to open...
In eager anticipation,
Hannah Webb
