Avalon Springs
Avalon Springs is an experiential learning environment, anchored by a healing hot springs retreat center and staff ecovillage – a living mystery school for an emerging sustainable human culture.
Avalon Springs sits on 318 acres of wooded hillside land in Lake County, California, about one hour north of Napa. Rich with natural drinking spring water and hot springs for soaking, the land of Avalon Springs is breathtakingly unique.
The site of an old hot springs resort, Howard Hot Springs, Avalon Springs is being renovated to provide guest housing for visitors, retreat participants, and students to immerse themselves in sustainable living and permaculture. By 2009, Avalon Springs will open to the public, providing experiential learning opportunities for those interested in living the change we want to see in the world.
Avalon will provide experiential courses in permaculture, renewable energy, green building, communication skills, holistic healing, and spirituality in many forms. All classes will provide not only mental integration of new skills, but also support in group process and welcoming of open-hearted connection and honest communication.
Small cottages and lodge housing will house retreat participants and visitors. A small staff village will house some of those integrally involved in operating Avalon Springs.
Avalon Springs is now moving from Design into Implementation Phase. During Implementation Phase (2007-2009), we have a small temporary resident community of Work Trade participants living and working on the land beginning the gardens, doing renovations, and readying the land for further development. As of Spring 2007, our few remaining resident work-trade positions are reserved for specific skillset experts including horticulturists - especially biodynamic and permaculture, compost alchemists, organizational wizards and experienced project managers, and natural builders.
We have monthly work parties where you can tour the property, work on the land, and soak in the hot springs. See our website for details. These serve as our open house times, as we do not have resources to accommodate drop-in visitors or private tours.
Investment opportunities are available to help build Avalon Springs. From partnership investment, to pre-purchase of a lifetime of annual retreats, Avalon is accepting financial participation from partners who share the Vision.
