| Do you seek spiritual community in rural Hawai'i? Do you strive to live sustainably? Will you be an exemplary role model for our community's children? Will you protect the rainforest?
This community is situated on the border of a 28,000 forest reserve (actually part of a much larger network of protected land spanning from Volcanoes National Park down to the ocean, the largest remaining intact rainforest remaining in Hawai'i). The nearest public access to the forest reserve is about 10 miles away. This gives us highly privileged and virtually private access, but with it comes great responsibility.
The basic structure is simple: The community is only as strong as the energy we put into it. We each contribute to the community only as much as we freely volunteer. The community provides only as much as it is able. In this way it is much like a rainbow gathering. Unlike a rainbow gathering, we have several advantages: 1.We don't have a specific date by which the gathering is over. 2. We can therefore build more permanently, and practice more long-term agriculture and permaculture. 3. Situated on private property, we don't have to put up with A-camp, drainbows, etc.
In typical WWOOFing situations, you are guaranteed food and shelter. Pelelani cannot make such guarantees. The community will provide only what it can, but in the end, it is your own responsibility for being able to sustain your existence. Until we are much stronger as a community, community meals may not happen every day. As for shelter, there is plenty of room for a tent or a tarp structure. You can invest as much or as little as you like into your own nest, but it is unfair to everyone else if you sleep in the community space.
There are obviously more details. If you are really interested, bring what you would normally bring to a rainbow gathering and come for a visit. Stay with us for a few weeks and only then will you really know what we are about.
A word about economics: This is not a job and Pelelani cannot guarantee you employment. However, I am slowly making connections in the larger community, and if it is your vision to be economically productive, we can try to make that happen. Property values around here are currently amazingly undervalued. Even with a crappy job, prices are within reach. Pelelani can help seed you into our already very alternative neighborhood community, in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision. I've already inspired one person who lives here to try to buy his own property. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
