Broomgrass, an organic farming community located in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, offers a rare lifestyle that you and your family will treasure.
Our community has 16 carefully selected, one-acre lots on which to build a custom home. Members may choose from lots that offer marvelous views of two surrounding mountain ranges, or those that are situated in cloistered wooded areas and offer greater privacy. Homeowners also retain a membership in the community association and ownership of the community pool, pool house and barn.
The Broomgrass farm—-the core of the community-—creates a balance of open and wooded lands, can provide organic foods, and perpetuates the tradition of agriculture. Whether your interest in farming ranges from growing a field of alfalfa, tending to a small garden, or merely watching from afar, you will be integrally linked to the agricultural life here, yet only personally responsible for the maintenance of your homesite.
As of August 2008, the community offers a community in-ground swimming pool with a salt chlorine generator. The pool has two 25-meter lap lanes, and an open pool house with toilet, and sauna. The community barn is made of white oak and is built to last over 100 years with peg joinery. There is a lower level for livestock.
Our goal is to ensure the long-term preservation of the farm and the community. The development rights to Broomgrass have been conveyed as an easement to a farmland trust, restricting further development. This action protects the land in perpetuity and ensures that it will be is taxed at a much reduced farm-use rate.
Broomgrass is just two hours from Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Maryland, 20 minutes from MARC Rail, and in close proximity to interstate access, Berkeley County public schools, a mall and downtown shopping.
