Back to the Basics
Bowling Green, Kentucky,
United States
(No physical location of community - Forming stage)
Hello, my name is Charlie. My wife Sharon and I are early retirees in our mid-50's of this baby boomer era. We now live just south of Bowling Green, Ky. We both retired at an early age thinking that with our savings and investments we could still live comfortably and enjoy our years traveling and meeting people. Well, guess what? This is not going to happen due to the rising cost of oil and gas and its economical results on our retirement investments.
We want to form a community in a rural part of this area. The community we wish to form is one that is obediant to God and all 10 of his commandments! A group of mature and young adults with like interests of serving God as he intended. We want to grow a large portion of our own food, create a profitable cottage industry and thereby be self employed. We are not Amish, Mennonite, or of any church or religion - only that we have faith in God and that he will guide us back to a simpler and independent lifestyle before we as men and women adjusted our lives to the worldly ways of today. This is not to say you wouldn't have electricity, running water, or even a car, because you could! We would want to build log or timber beam rustic home structures from kits or whatever the land would provide, all working together. We would use conventional and alternative passive solar heating. We would use our own water resources in addition to county water, rain catchments, springs, wells, ponds and towers for drinking and watering of livestock and irrigation. I visualize a fort-type entrance like the early settlers with log homes, stables, mills, craft shop, gardens, corrals and fields of different livestock on the inside. A post office & community store could be on the outside where vendors could call without entering the compound. We hope to have retired doctors and nurses, veterinarians, engineers, computer specialists for barter or trade for services from others in the community all working together in the fort-like atmosphere. We want to have a main lodge or meeting area for the Sabbath and for groups of the community to get together and share each others talents or skills.
All through the Bible, God has always given man that second chance to repent his ways and live on earth by his laws,"The Ten Commandments" But I believe our second chances are soon to be no more. I want to invite all to seek God in getting back to the Basics now and join our community in early endeavors. Please write back I am open to more ideas!
